How to style red…
APRIL’S STYLE CONUNDRUM
“I LOVE THE COLOUR RED BUT I HAVE VERY LITTLE OF IT IN MY WARDROBE BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW HOW TO STYLE IT!” -JASMINE
Ah, red. The colour that people want to talk about the most. Red is both love and danger, valentines and stop signs, and whilst it can be a bit scary to style, it’s one colour I always recommend my clients to start with because it’s an easy colour to incorporate into your wardrobe and will go with so many things that you already own. So, start by choosing a shade of red that you resonate with and build your confidence by using the little technique us stylists refer to as the pop of red. Red is eye-catching and our eyes don’t have to work hard to see it, so the pop of red means the colour stays in moderation, and you don’t feel like a walking postbox. It’s easy to achieve, it’s an affordable way to start playing with colour and it’s always chic. How to do a pop of red? Keep it small. Make one accessory in your outfit red. Try a handbag, a scrunchie, even a nail or lipstick colour. Try a small scarf around your neck. The joy of styling is in the accessorising anyway. Keep the rest of your outfit quite neutral because red works with navy, camel, brown, black, white, and grey. This also works for styling red clothing too: keeping the rest of the outfit quite muted whilst featuring one red piece allows for a really timeless, classic look with a bit of bold creativity. Play with different ways to incorporate red into your outfits and allow the colour to do what it does best. Pop!
