What shoes with what trousers?

JUNE’S STYLE CONUNDRUM

“What shoes should I wear with different style trousers?” - ROSIE

Shoes have more styling power than you realise. Wear the same outfit and change just the shoes and you have a whole different vibe. So here’s a few trouser-and-shoe tips and techniques to keep in mind!..

ONE

If your toes can hack it, pointy toe shoes are the most incredible friends in your wardrobe. The reason? They lengthen your legs SO much. Round toe shoes and peep toes shorten your legs. Anything that draws the line long and pointed is extending your leg without any effort from you, (squashed toes aside). If you’re not a heels gal - then a cowboy boot is an amazing way to achieve the same result, or a pointy toe flat. Wear these with anything, but they look particularly cool peeking out under a wide leg long trouser. It gives a focus point, a strong shape and definition to a wide leg of fabric.

TWO

Ankle straps, whilst nice, are also a leg shortener. Try to avoid wearing shoes with ankle straps with a culotte or a midi skirt, as this is just drawing horizontal lines across the small part of leg we get to see. Ankle strap shoes looks amazing if the hemline is above the knee.

THREE

Like I said above, shoes are the vibe changer. We all get stuck in the rut of putting our wardrobe into sections, and it’s no different when it comes to our shoes. We mostly wear heels for occasions and trainers for casual. So I’m inviting you to a challenge… at some point this month, try wearing a casual shoe with a ‘smart’ piece of clothing in your wardrobe. Like a smart trouser with a trainer. Or, wear a dressy flat or a heel with a casual linen co-ord. Hell, go full Victoria Beckham and wear heels with your trackies… the juxtaposition in styling is what makes outfits interesting and unique. You might be surprised at what you find!
